Job Description

Teaching Assistant – Behaviour Specialist Location: Primary Alternative Provision – North & West Leeds Area Start Date: January (Temporary to Permanent) Contract: Temp to perm Pay: £12.07 – £14.43 per hour (AWR compliant) We are recruiting a Behaviour Specialist Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour. This role will involve supporting pupils either 1:1 or in small groups, helping them to regulate, engage positively with learning, and reintegrate successfully within an educational setting. The role is ideal for someone patient, resilient and passionate about helping children thrive. For further information contact Tracey Young on (phone number removed) or email: Key Responsibilities • Provide 1:1 and small group SEMH/behaviour interventions • Support emotional regulation, de-escalation and restorative approaches • Build positive, trusting relationships to improve pupil engagement • Deliver tailored behaviour strategies and nurture-based support • Work alongside teachers and support teams to maintain inclusive practice • Record behaviour and progress, contributing to plans and reviews • Promote a safe, calm and structured environment for learning Person Specification Essential: • Experience supporting SEMH needs or challenging behaviour in a primary setting • Strong behaviour management, resilience and de-escalation skills • Confident working 1:1 and leading small-group activities • A reflective, child-centred approach and good communication skills • Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply Desirable: • Level 2/3 TA qualification or equivalent • Team Teach / MAPA / Trauma-informed training • Experience working within alternative or behaviour provision In Return You Will Receive • Competitive rates of pay between £12.07 – £14.43 per hour (AWR Compliant) • On-the-job training provided by the setting • 24/7 support and feedback from experienced education consultants • We pride ourselves on intelligently matching supply and permanent candidates to the right schools, ensuring roles support career development and ambition.
