Location: Vale of Glamorgan.
Position: Teaching Assistant (Hearing Impaired Base – Secondary GCSE Support)
Start Date: September 2025.
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only (Monday to Friday, 08:00am – 15:00pm).
Duration: Full academic year, upon successful performance review.
Pay: £13 per hour.
Are you a compassionate, academically confident individual with a passion for supporting students with hearing impairments? We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our specialised Hearing Impaired Base within a secondary school environment.
About the Role:
You will play a key role in supporting pupils with hearing impairments who are studying for their GCSEs, helping them to access the curriculum and succeed in their academic goals. Working closely with subject teachers and specialist staff, you’ll assist in delivering tailored support across a range of subjects and exam preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small group academic support for hearing impaired pupils across a range of GCSE subjects.
Assist with classwork, homework, and exam revision.
Use appropriate communication methods, including British Sign Language (BSL) if required (desirable but not compulsory for BSL).
Support students' confidence and independence in the classroom.
Liaise with teachers and the SEN team to adapt learning materials and track progress.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.
Requirements:
Minimum Grade C in English and Maths (GCSE or equivalent); degree-level education preferred.
Strong academic knowledge, particularly at GCSE level across core subjects.
Experience supporting young people with special educational needs (SEN), ideally hearing impairments.
Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
BSL qualifications or experience (desirable but not essential).
