Phonics Specialist Teaching Assistant – Full-Time | Coventry
Location: Coventry
Contract: Full-Time | Temporary | Ongoing
Start Date: January 2026 (or sooner)

APT Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Coventry to recruit a passionate and experienced Phonics Specialist Teaching Assistant. This is a full-time, ongoing role starting January 2026 or earlier, supporting early reading development across EYFS and Key Stage 1.
The school is committed to ensuring every child becomes a confident, fluent reader. With a strong focus on early intervention, they are seeking a dedicated practitioner who can deliver high-quality phonics support to pupils who need it most.
📘 About the Role:
* Deliver targeted phonics interventions to individuals and small groups
* Support pupils in EYFS and KS1 with early reading, blending, segmenting, and decoding
* Use a systematic synthetic phonics programme (e.g., Read Write Inc., Little Wandle, or Letters and Sounds)
* Track pupil progress and adapt support to meet individual needs
* Work closely with class teachers and the literacy lead to raise attainment in reading
✅ Ideal Candidate:
* Experience delivering phonics interventions in a primary school setting
* Strong understanding of phonics phases and early reading strategies
* Confident supporting lower-attaining pupils and those with additional needs
* Patient, encouraging, and passionate about literacy development
* A valid Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
