Key Responsibilities
Provide dedicated one-to-one support for a pupil with autism who is non-verbal, ensuring access to a differentiated curriculum tailored to their learning and communication needs
Support the pupil with personal care needs (e.g. toileting, hygiene, feeding) in a respectful and professional manner, promoting independence wherever possible
Work alongside the class teacher, SENCO and external specialists (such as Speech and Language Therapists) to implement strategies to promote communication and engagement
Use alternative communication methods to reinforce speech and language development
Observe and record progress, feeding back to teachers and parents as part of a collaborative support plan
Uphold school safeguarding, inclusion and behaviour policies at all times, ensuring the pupil’s safety, dignity and wellbeingAbout You
Experience if working with children with autism and communication difficulties, ideally in a school or early years setting.
Confidence in supporting a non-verbal child, using a range of communication tools and strategies
A caring and sensitive approach to personal care needs, understanding the importance of maintaining dignity and respect
