Inclusion Teaching Assistant (Full Time) at a specialist secondary provision in Portsmouth

Location: Portsmouth
 Start Date: As soon as possible
 Contract: Permanent
 Institution: KS3/4
 Pay: £20,472 to £22,859 pro rata (£25,077 to £28,001 FTE)

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Inclusion Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Inclusion Centre within a secondary school setting. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students aged 11 to 16 with Education, Health and Care Plans, helping them to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

You will work closely with teaching staff and the SEN team to provide tailored support, both individually and in small groups. The role focuses on supporting students with complex cognition and learning needs within a structured and nurturing environment.

The setting offers small group support and a child centred approach, ensuring that each student’s strengths and next steps are recognised and developed. Staff work collaboratively to support emotional wellbeing, engagement, and academic progress.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1 to 1 and small group support to students with EHCPs
 • Support students in accessing the curriculum and structured learning activities
 • Promote emotional, social, and academic development
 • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents or carers
 • Support students’ mental and physical wellbeing
 • Work collaboratively with teachers and SEN staff
 • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records
 • Promote a safe and inclusive learning environment

Requirements

• Experience working with young people, particularly those with additional needs
 • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
 • Minimum Grade 4 or equivalent in English and Mathematics
 • Patient, adaptable, and resilient approach
 • Passion for supporting students and building positive relationships
 • Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality practices
 • Enhanced DBS check or willingness to obtain one
