Teaching Assistant (Non-Qualified) – NP11, Abercarn Pay: £12.85 per hour (PAYE) Hours: 6 to 40 hours per week (flexible) Contract Type: Short-term, Ad Hoc, Temping, Long-Term Ongoing Roles 💼 About the Role We are currently recruiting Teaching Assistants (non-qualified) to work in schools across Abercarn (NP11). This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children in their learning and development, and who wish to gain experience in education. You’ll work under the instruction of the SENCO, teachers, and senior staff, supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom within an agreed framework of supervision. This includes implementing agreed work programmes and supporting individual pupils or group, particularly those requiring specialist or detailed attention in specific areas. While your principal duties are outlined below, flexibility is key, you may be asked to assist with other responsibilities as required by the school. 🎯 Job Purpose To assist teaching staff in delivering engaging learning programmes while supporting pupils’ educational, social and emotional development. This includes helping to implement individual education and behaviour plans to contribute to each pupil’s progress, as well as promoting inclusion, independence and achievement across all learning settings. 📘 Key Responsibilities Support for Pupils * Attend to pupils’ personal needs and implement related personal programmes (including health, hygiene and welfare). * Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Personal Care Programmes. * Use specialist skills or experience to support pupils’ learning. * Establish productive, supportive relationships with pupils, acting as a positive role models * Provide constructive feedback to pupils regarding their progress and achievements. Support for the Teacher * Observe and monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and provide accurate feedback and reports to teaching staff. * Assist in marking work and recording results. Support for the School * Follow policies related to safeguarding, health, safety, confidentiality and data protection. * Promote equality and inclusion, ensuring all pupils have equal learning opportunities. * Build positive relationships with staff, pupils and parents. * Participate in meetings, training sessions and professional development. * Supervise pupils during unstructured times (e.g. lunch, playtime). * Accompany pupils and staff on school visits or trips when required. 👩‍🏫 Working Relationships * Regular collaboration with teachers, SENCO and external professionals (e.g. speech therapists, physiotherapists, behavioural support). * Direct support for pupils requiring tailored learning or care programmes. ⚙️ Responsibilities for Data and Resources * Maintain accurate manual and electronic pupil records. * Safeguard sensitive information and uphold confidentiality. 🧩 Person Specification CriteriaEssential Desirable Qualifications * NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent experience * GCSE English & Maths (A–C or equivalent) Knowledge: * Understanding of child development and learning processes * Training in relevant learning strategies (e.g. literacy, numeracy, SEN support) Skills * Effective use of ICT to support learningWelsh speaker or BSL sign Experience * Experience working with children of relevant age and supporting pupils with SEN (ASD, ADHD, S&L, etc.) 🌈 What We Offer 1.
