Job Title: Teaching Assistant – SEN Unit Location: Bedford Start Date: September 2025 Contract Type: Fixed Term (1 year, with the potential to become permanent following budget review) Day Rate: £100 - £120 a day (dependent on experience and qualifications) Job Description: Do you thrive on challenge, connection, and seeing the impact of your support day by day? A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Bedford is looking for a compassionate, resilient and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2025, supporting children with SEN needs and complex behavioural profiles. This role sits within a caring and structured environment where staff work closely together to ensure that every child feels safe, understood, and supported to succeed—academically, socially, and emotionally. You'll need experience working with children who may express themselves through challenging behaviours and require consistent emotional support and clear boundaries. Responsibilities: Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs. Help implement behaviour regulation strategies and personalised support plans. Work closely with class teachers, SENCO and external professionals. Foster trust, consistency and positive relationships with pupils. Support learning inside and outside the classroom. Assist in creating a safe, predictable and inclusive learning environment. Requirements: Experience supporting pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviour, ideally in a primary setting. Calm, confident and consistent approach to behaviour management. Strong emotional intelligence and resilience. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding. Ability to celebrate small wins and help children build self-esteem and self-regulation skills.
