Info about what the Technical Writer / Technical Publications Specialist involves
As a Technical Writer, you will interact with the full organisation on documentation projects for the UK and all across the world. A permanent, hybrid role to provide technical publications support, interacting across the world with a global team as well as a local engineering team & sales team supporting technical documentation for the UK and the global business. Some 60/70% of the time you will be developing the technical documentation - reviewing the technical documents (how to use, how to install, technical training publications, new products guides etc).
30% will be working in commercial helping develop brochures, technical training and supporting engineering teams to create graphs and wiring diagrams.
Essential Requirements of the Technical Writer / Technical Publications Specialist
* Technical Writer / Author with previous experience writing technical documentation for Hardware orientated products (not software) - technical writing and the design/illustrations (cabling diagrams, electrical drawings etc) You will have experience with the creation of technical publications like data sets, installation manuals and maintenance manuals for technical companies.
* You will also be able to help with content creation for brochures.
* A technical engineering background / exposure is needed to understand the products. You will learn how to use the products, work with the engineering team to understand how the solutions work, how to install them (cabling diagrams, wiring, measurements of the products etc.)
* Proficiency in design and documentation tools such as Adobe Acrobat and tools such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator (other illustration tools will also be OK e.g. Canva) - the candidate must have some experience with Graphic Design.
Desirable Requirements of the Technical Writer / Technical Publications Specialist
* Degree-level education in technical communication, engineering, or related field preferred.
* Experience in a safety-critical industries would be helpful.
* French language speaker would be very desirable
