Based in Peterborough, you will take a lead role in shaping the design strategy for treatment assets—ensuring solutions are innovative, buildable, efficient, and regulatory-compliant. This position focuses on non-infrastructure assets—such as treatment works, pumping stations, chemical dosing systems, and boreholes—rather than pipelines or networks. You will be at the heart of delivering capital projects that help ensure a safe, sustainable water supply for the future. Key Responsibilities: 1. Technical Leadership Lead the design development of clean water treatment solutions for AMP8 capital projects. Ensure technical solutions meet water quality standards, regulatory targets (e.g., PFAS, nitrate removal), and environmental commitments. Act as the primary technical interface across design, delivery, operations, and supply chain teams.2. Design Oversight Manage and direct multi-disciplinary design teams (civil, MEICA, process, chemical). Oversee the production of technical documentation including drawings, specifications, design risk assessments, and feasibility studies. Ensure that designs are aligned with project budgets, buildability requirements, operational needs, and programme timelines.3. Innovation & Value Engineering Drive innovation through early contractor involvement, modular design, and digital design tools (e.g., BIM, digital twins). Identify and implement value-engineered solutions that reduce cost, improve efficiency, and enhance sustainability.4. Stakeholder Engagement Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including Anglian Water, regulators, supply chain partners, and asset management teams. Provide technical assurance and input at all project stages—from concept through to handover.5. Compliance & Governance Ensure full compliance with DWI, WQ standards, H&S regulations (CDM), and @one Alliance delivery governance. Champion a quality-first approach, contributing to continuous improvement and lessons learned programmes.Essential Experience & Qualifications: Degree-qualified in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Process Engineering (or related discipline). Chartered or working toward chartership (ICE, IChemE, IMechE, CIWEM). Extensive experience in the design and delivery of water treatment works and associated clean water non-infrastructure. Strong understanding of chemical dosing systems, pumping stations, supernatant return systems, and borehole developments. Demonstrated experience working within design & build environments and/or regulated utility frameworks (e.g., AMP7/8). Proven track record of leading multi-disciplinary teams on capital investment programmes.Desirable Skills & Knowledge: Experience with emerging contaminants (e.g., PFAS) and modern treatment technologies. Familiarity with digital design tools (BIM, Revit, AutoCAD, GIS). Knowledge of Anglican Water design standards and operational requirements. Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance technical excellence with budget and programme constraints. Ability to foresee and mitigate design risks early in the life cycle. Why Join the @one Alliance? Work at the forefront of water innovation within one of the UK’s most collaborative and progressive alliances. Help shape AMP8 outcomes that support environmental goals and resilient water infrastructure. Hybrid working, excellent career progression opportunities, and a supportive, multidisciplinary environment
