Job Description

Job Purpose: To manage and process applications for all Council-provided housing-related grants and loans. This role includes providing technical advice on building works to the Staying Put service and housing enforcement officers, inspecting properties, and assessing the most suitable and cost-effective solutions for disabled adaptations and repairs. Key Responsibilities: Conduct property surveys and joint visits with Occupational Therapy staff to assess eligibility and needs for Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) and other housing-related financial assistance. Develop accurate, detailed schedules of works, including measurements and small-scale design drawings, enabling contractors to provide reliable and competitive cost estimates. Use the Council’s Schedule of Rates and contractor estimates to calculate eligible costs for grant-funded works. Monitor works on-site during progress and upon completion, ensuring all work meets the Council’s standards for quantity and quality. Assess and quantify completed works and any unforeseen additional work required. Recommend approval of variations within the grant limit and escalate cases exceeding the limit to management. Collaborate with professionals such as Occupational Therapists, Planning Officers, and Building Control Officers to ensure designs comply with relevant requirements. Provide technical support to the Staying Put service and housing enforcement teams. Carry out inspections for cases beyond DFGs when needed. Be vigilant in safeguarding issues, understanding the principles of protecting vulnerable persons and making referrals where appropriate. Maintain accurate records of all activities using both manual and electronic systems in accordance with Council procedures. Uphold and promote the Council’s Corporate Equality Policy, actively supporting anti-discriminatory practices. Carry out duties in accordance with the Council’s Health & Safety policies and comply with relevant legislation. Ensure all responsibilities are fulfilled in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and associated regulations
