Temporary Works Lead - HS2 Location: Birmingham, UK Contract Type: Permanent / Full-time Salary: £65,000 - £75,000 About the Role: We are looking for an experienced Temporary Works Lead to join the team delivering the HS2 project. The Temporary Works Lead will manage all aspects of temporary works design, coordination, assurance, and compliance in line with HS2 and national standards. This key leadership position ensures that all Temporary Works activities are planned, designed, implemented, and maintained safely and effectively in accordance with BS5975 and the Employer's Temporary Works Procedure. Responsibilities: Act as the principal point of contact between Temporary Works designers and the site team. Coordinate all Temporary Works activities and appoint Temporary Works Supervisors as required. Develop, implement, and maintain Temporary Works procedures on site (WI300). Ensure all responsibilities under BS5975, HS2 Temporary Works Procedure, and PAS 8811/8812 are fulfilled. Oversee preparation and approval of Temporary Works design briefs in line with site requirements. Ensure Temporary Works designs are checked, approved, and implemented to the required standard. Maintain records of all Temporary Works designs, calculations, drawings, and relevant documentation. Verify that Temporary Works are constructed in accordance with approved designs and specifications. Manage change control processes and ensure any design or material changes are properly reviewed and approved. Permit loading, maintenance, and dismantling of Temporary Works only after confirming safety and compliance. Ensure independence of design checks and appropriate delegation to Temporary Works Supervisors. Oversee inspection, maintenance, and assurance activities for all Temporary Works. Uphold the highest standards of health, safety, and quality across all site activities. Skills and Competencies: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to report confidently at project and board level. Strong organisational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams. In-depth knowledge of UK health, safety, and temporary works legislation including: Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 Construction Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1996 Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 Experience implementing BS5975-compliant procedures and technical standards. Highly analytical with strong problem-solving and coordination skills. Qualifications and Experience: Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering or related discipline. Significant experience in a senior Temporary Works or engineering management role within a major construction organisation. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (ICE or equivalent) preferred. Lower qualifications (HNC/HND) may be considered with substantial relevant experience. Proven track record in managing Temporary Works for large-scale infrastructure or rail projects
