Toolroom Manager
Toolroom Manager's main purpose of the role
To support the Managing Director in the day-to-day management and operation of the toolroom while ensuring the safety and well-being of all team members. The Toolroom Manager will lead by example, motivating the team, setting clear objectives, and driving accountability.
This role includes training, developing, and mentoring toolroom employees to maintain tooling in accordance with technical drawings, ensuring compliance with all relevant H&S procedures. The manager will also ensure the facility meets required Health & Safety, Human Resources, Quality, and Environmental policies, procedures, and standards.
Toolroom Manager's roles & responsibilities
* Manage workflow through the toolroom in coordination with planning and customer service functions, including:
* Ordering raw materials and establishing priorities
* Monitoring progress and revising schedules as needed and Resolving issues promptly
* Collaborate with senior toolmakers and designers to resolve technical issues efficiently and professionally.
* Lead staff onboarding and induction in line with company policy.
* Work closely with other departments to ensure clear and effective communication from the toolroom.
* Monitor and ensure achievement of key toolroom performance targets (KPIs) and support data collection and reporting.
* Promote and enforce good Health & Safety practices, including: Implementing IOSH training, Ensuring safe use of equipment and PPE compliance and maintaining a clean, organized work environment through the 6S methodology
* Develop and maintain risk assessments, safe systems of work, and work instructions in line with company policy.
* Act as the main point of contact in the absence of the Managing Director, making informed decisions within the company’s reporting structure.
* Monitor attendance, manage absence procedures, and proactively support employee well-being.
* Monitor and manage stock levels of raw materials and consumables.
* Conduct contractor safety inductions, issue permits to work, and ensure RAMS are in place before work begins.
* Contribute to the company’s continuous improvement initiatives and support strategic growth objectives.
* Oversee and visit partner toolmakers internationally to maintain high standards of tooling destined for UK mouldshops.
Toolroom Manager's Benefits and Hours of work
Salary: £55k (DOE), Hours of work: 7AM to 4PM, 23 days holidays plus BH, EAP, Life Assurance & Pension
