Planner – Private Planning Consultancy – Reading

Fraser Recruitment is partnering with a well‑established specialist town planning consultancy with over 50 years’ experience helping clients to unlock development potential across the UK. This is a great opportunity for a talented Town Planner to join a collaborative team supporting residential, commercial, and mixed‑use planning projects.

About the Employer
The company provides bespoke planning advice from initial site appraisals, strategic planning research and planning applications through to appeals and project management. The firm works closely with clients, local authorities, and consultants, delivering robust, policy‑compliant submissions and evidence to achieve positive outcomes. The team also offers expert witness services at planning inquiries and hearings. Offices are based in Berkshire, Surrey and Hampshire, operating as part of a wider group of planning and design consultancies.

The Role
As a Town Planner, you will contribute to a range of planning activities including report writing, site appraisals, policy research, and monitoring applications. You’ll liaise with clients and multidisciplinary consultants, assist with project management, and help prepare planning statements and appeals. This role offers exposure to diverse planning work and direct involvement in development projects.

Key Responsibilities
✅ Undertake site appraisals and prepare high‑quality written reports
✅ Conduct policy research and check planning policy matters for submissions
✅ Monitor planning applications and provide strategic input
✅ Assist with lodging appeals and preparing supporting documents
✅ Liaise with clients and external consultants to progress projects
✅ Support project management and delivery through the planning process

About You
✔ Planning experience within a consultancy or local authority environment
✔ Strong report writing skills and understanding of planning policy
✔ Good commercial awareness and ability to manage tasks to deadlines
✔ Excellent communicator with the ability to build strong client relationships
✔ Confident working independently and collaboratively
