Key Responsibilities
1.
Traffic Control & Guidance
*
Direct vehicles (HGVs, cranes, forklifts) using standardised BS 7121 hand signals.
*
Manage traffic flow in confined spaces (site entrances, loading bays, public highways).
*
Operate stop/go boards for Chapter 8 highway works.
2.
Safety Enforcement
*
Implement site-specific traffic management plans (TMPs) and risk assessments.
*
Enforce speed limits (<10mph), exclusion zones, and one-way systems.
*
Monitor blind spots for plant operators (e.g., excavators, telehandlers).
3.
Communication & Coordination
*
Use two-way radios to alert drivers/pedestrians of hazards.
*
Conduct vehicle inductions for new site entrants.
*
Liaise with slingers, crane ops, and site managers.
4.
Emergency Response
*
Halt operations immediately for unsafe acts (e.g., unauthorised pedestrian access).
*
Assist in incident reporting (RIDDOR if applicable).
5.
Documentation
*
Complete daily logbooks (vehicle movements, near misses).
*
Verify operator credentials (LOLER certs, CPCS cards)
