Trainee Teaching Assistant – Newport

This role offers valuable hands-on experience in alternative provision settings, working with pupils who may face challenges linked to social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH), ADHD, and anxiety.

What You’ll Be Doing
Supporting pupils in classroom groups as well as providing 1:1 interventions
Helping pupils regulate their emotions and encouraging positive behaviour
Creating an inclusive and calm environment where learners feel valued and safe
Assisting in delivering personalised strategies that promote wellbeing and academic success
Building strong, supportive relationships with pupils, teachers, and families
Encouraging communication, emotional literacy, and confidence in social situations
What We’re Looking For
A real interest in working with children and young people who need extra support
Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trust with pupils
A positive and proactive approach, with the determination to make a lasting difference
Good communication skills and willingness to work closely within a team
Commitment to developing a career in SEND, inclusion, or alternative provision
Availability Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm (term-time only)
Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register with our support
