Full job description
I am looking for an experienced and highly organised Transport Planner (Containers) to join a dynamic operations team in Portsmouth. This key role within the transport department is responsible for efficiently planning and coordinating container movements across the South, with occasional activities at London Gateway.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate and assign daily container transport tasks across the company fleet.
* Anticipate and plan workloads in advance to optimise efficiency and enhance customer service.
* Liaise clearly and professionally with drivers, clients, and subcontractors.
* Resolve operational challenges and delays with a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
* Keep transport management systems and digital records precise and current.
* Provide occasional support with general haulage duties as needed.
Essential Requirements
* Demonstrated expertise in planning container haulage operations.
* Solid understanding of port procedures and regional transport networks.
* Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities.
* Skilled in IT systems; familiarity with TOPS is highly desirable.
* Capable of staying composed under pressure and making effective operational decisions.
* Willingness to take part in an on-call schedule as required.
Experience:
* Container haulage planning: 1 year (required)
* The work pattern is Monday to Friday 07.00-16.00 or 08.00-17.00 and then one week in 4 you will be required to do on call duties commencing Friday evening up until Friday morning the following week. For this you’ll receive a payment of £220 and overtime at time and a third rate for the Saturday and Sunday x 8 hours per day.
