Job Specification Locaiton: Colnbrook Job Title: Transport Planner Reports To: Transport Manager Hours: 06:00 – 15:00 hrs / 10:00 – 19:00 hrs (shift rotation) Purpose of the Role To execute daily transport planning activities in a cost-effective and efficient manner, ensuring the continuity and quality of service to the client. This includes responding to planning emails, updating schedules, and escalating issues when required. The role requires flexibility, decision-making, and close communication with internal and external stakeholders. Key Relationships * Transport Manager * Drivers (including contracted drivers) * Warehouse Staff * Client Services Team * Solutions Team * Forwarders & Customers Core Capabilities * IT Skills: Basic knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook * Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills * Organisation: Excellent organisational and time-management skills * Adaptability: Flexible to adapt to changing priorities and operational challenges * Transport Knowledge: * Sound knowledge of UK and Ireland vehicle routing and scheduling * Understanding of geographical locations within the UK/IE * Familiarity with “White Glove Services” (advantageous) Key Responsibilities 1. Review booking emails and promptly update the digital planning schedule with route changes, crew details, and contact numbers. 2. Plan and manage day-to-day transport operations with a focus on optimisation while maintaining high levels of customer service. 3. Communicate delays or operational issues to the Solutions and Cargo teams both verbally and via email each morning. 4. Assist with allocation and scheduling by preparing the final load plan for all vehicles, ensuring cost-effective utilisation. 5. Justify all subcontracted work prior to booking and obtain accurate job pricing. 6. Read and action all job-specific method statements prior to scheduling. 7. Review delivery paperwork for accuracy—checking dates, times, special instructions, and required equipment. 8. Conduct daily driver briefs and debriefs, including scanning and reviewing of tachographs. 9. Support with local deliveries in instances of driver shortages. 10. Collaborate with the Transport Manager on any incident investigations or operational escalations. 11. Ensure compliance with company processes and client requirements at all times.
