Transport Planner Job Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Transport Planner to join a busy and fast-paced transport office based in Portsmouth. This role would suit someone who is highly organised, thrives under pressure, and is confident managing day-to-day logistics operations while delivering exceptional customer service.
The Role
As a Transport Planner, you'll be responsible for coordinating and optimising transport operations to ensure efficiency and reliability. Your main duties will include:
Planning and managing full and part loads, including specialist requirements such as FORS, Hiabs, and flatbeds.
Overseeing schedules for drivers and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with regulations and efficient use of the fleet.
Handling time-sensitive challenges with effective problem-solving and clear decision-making.
Managing incoming and outgoing customer communications in a professional and responsive manner.
Scheduling and monitoring jobs using dedicated IT systems.
Preparing quotes, tracking consignments, invoicing, and processing PODs.
Liaising with partners nationwide to support load sharing and collaboration.
Supporting other operational functions when required.
Transport Planner Job Requirements
Strong transport industry knowledge
The ability to remain calm and organised in a busy environment
Previous experience in a transport planning or similar logistics role (essential).
Computer literacy and strong administrative skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Strong customer service skills and a solutions-focused approach.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently, manage workload, and prioritise effectively.
A flexible, positive, "can-do" attitude.

Transport Planner Salary & Benefits
Salary: £27,000 - £29,500 per annum (depending on experience).
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm (with flexibility required during busy periods).
20 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with additional days awarded for long service.
