Job Role
A TSCM (Technical Surveillance Countermeasures) Engineer is responsible for protecting sensitive information and communications from unauthorized surveillance. They perform TSCM Services to detect and neutralize threats such as bugs, eavesdropping devices, and other forms of surveillance used to gather intelligence or conduct espionage.
Skills Required
Proven experience of TSCM and an ability to hit the ground running with global deployments
Informed of current and emerging espionage threats, vulnerabilities, trends and report and share with the wider team.
Develop extensive knowledge and experience of researching, handling and maintaining the TSCM equipment.
Strong understanding of wireless and wired communication systems.
Ability to use technical surveillance detection equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, NLJD).
Familiarity with encryption technologies and methods of secure communications.
Strong experience in the use of IT including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and data input onto databases.
Ability to detect and analyze complex technical issues related to surveillance.
Quick thinking and adaptability when responding to threats or incidents.
Ability to carefully examine environments and communications for subtle or hidden surveillance devices.
Ability to produce clear, comprehensive reports and communicate findings to clients or senior management.
Strong interpersonal skills to work with clients, security teams, and other stakeholders.Key Responsibilities:
Surveillance Detection and Countermeasures
Conduct physical and electronic sweeps for surveillance devices (bugs, cameras, tracking devices, etc.) in high-security areas.
Utilize specialized equipment like spectrum analyzers, non-linear junction detectors (NLJD), and thermal cameras to identify surveillance threats.
Provide recommendations for protecting physical spaces and communication systems against eavesdropping.
Risk Assessment
Assess risks associated with electronic surveillance in client or company environments.
Advise clients on how to mitigate vulnerabilities related to their security systems, communication methods, and operational procedures.
System Implementation and Testing
Design, install, and configure counter-surveillance systems.
Test and calibrate security equipment to ensure it is functioning optimally and remains effective against evolving threats.
Incident Response:
Investigate potential surveillance breaches and respond to incidents where a threat is detected.
Work with other departments (such as IT or physical security) to develop an appropriate response strategy.
Security Consultations:
Provide technical advice to clients regarding security policies and best practices for preventing eavesdropping or other forms of covert surveillance.
Train staff members on proper security measures to ensure ongoing protection.
Reporting:
Create detailed reports documenting the results of TSCM sweeps, including findings, analysis, and recommended actions.
Maintain accurate records of performed surveys and inspections.
Research and Development:
Stay up-to-date on the latest surveillance technology and countermeasure techniques.
Continuously improve and update TSCM practices in response to emerging threats
