What Does CES Mean?
Children’s Education Services (CES) are education professionals who are employed directly by the local education authority (LEA) or an external education provider (like a tuition agency or recruitment agency) to work across multiple schools or educational settings, rather than being attached to just one school.
These roles are often used for:
* Targeted tuition support (e.g. one-to-one or small group work)
* Intervention programmes (e.g. catch-up literacy, maths, SEN support)
* Alternative provision or pupil referral services
* Short- or long-term cover in schools, particularly in high-need areas
CES Tutors:
CES tutors are contracted (often on a temporary or flexible basis) to deliver support on behalf of a council, academy trust, or educational agency. These roles often align with government-funded programmes, such as the National Tutoring Programme (NTP) in the UK.
What service does a typical CES team provide?
They provide tutors to work with young people during the most difficult periods in their lives. This includes children that are unable to attend school for several reasons. They often deal with cases where anxiety or challenges at home make it very difficult for children to maintain a consistent education. In response, the tutors are tasked with building trusting relationships with young people who may have felt let down by adults in the past.
The tutors adopt a personal and positive approach to building students’ self-esteem and motivation. In the end, the aim is to empower young people so that they can return to mainstream education and move forward with their lives
