Job Description

Job Title: US Tax Assistant Manager Job Type: Permanent Location: London (Hybrid) Salary: £55-62,000 (Negotiable) + Bonus + Benefits The Role: The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of US tax clients, lead and support a variety of tax projects, provide strategic tax advice, oversee compliance obligations, and build long-term client relationships. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication and relationship management skills, playing a key role in delivering exceptional client service and supporting the continued growth of the practice. Role Responsibilities: Manage a portfolio of US clients, acting as their primary point of contact while overseeing all aspects of tax compliance, advisory services and relationship management. Build and maintain strong client relationships by delivering proactive, commercially focused tax advice and ensuring an exceptional client experience. Respond to complex technical queries, providing clear, practical guidance on US tax matters in a timely and professional manner. Develop and implement tax planning strategies for clients with UK and US cross-border tax considerations. Review complex US individual, corporate and partnership tax returns, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with current US tax legislation. Review complex US international information reporting forms, including Forms 5471, 8858, 8865, 8621, 3520, 3520-A and 8938. Lead and support a range of US tax advisory projects, including tax planning assignments, technical research, written reports and client consultations. Analyse the US and international tax implications of mergers and acquisitions, business restructurings, investments and cross-border expansion projects. Support Partners and Directors in delivering market-leading tax advice to US individuals and businesses operating in the UK. Identify tax planning opportunities and provide commercially focused recommendations that add value for clients. Delegate work effectively across the team, managing priorities and ensuring deadlines and quality standards are consistently achieved. Coach, mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members, supporting their professional development and reviewing their work. Collaborate closely with colleagues across the wider tax practice to deliver integrated, high-quality client solutions. Stay up to date with changes in US tax legislation and emerging international tax developments, sharing knowledge and best practice across the team. Contribute to process improvements, helping to drive efficiencies and maintain the highest standards of client service and technical excellence. Skills & Expertise: US Enrolled Agent (EA) qualification is essential. Significant experience in US tax compliance, including the preparation and/or review of complex US tax returns and international information reporting forms. Proven expertise reviewing international reporting forms, including Forms 5471, 8858, 8865, 8621, 3520, 3520-A and 8938. Experience managing a portfolio of clients, acting as a trusted adviser and delivering exceptional client service. Confident communicating directly with clients, responding to technical queries and explaining complex tax matters in a clear, practical manner. Exposure to US tax advisory work, including technical research, tax planning, written advice and client consultancy projects, is highly desirable. UK tax knowledge is advantageous but not essential. Previous experience leading, mentoring and developing junior team members, with the ability to delegate effectively and review work to a high standard. Strong technical knowledge of US tax legislation, compliance requirements and international reporting obligations. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex legislation and deliver commercially focused solutions. Highly organised, with strong project and time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to build relationships with clients, colleagues and senior stakeholders. Commercially aware, proactive and committed to delivering the highest standards of technical excellence and client service.
