Drive Financial Recovery and Operational Efficiency at the UK’s Largest NHS Trust
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is seeking an experienced and delivery-focused leader to join us as Value for Patients Director. This is a high-impact role with a clear and urgent mission: to lead the design and implementation of deliverable, sustainable schemes that support the Trust’s financial recovery and operational efficiency across its ten hospitals and six Clinical Groups.
You will work at the heart of a large, complex organisation to ensure we operate as efficiently as possible, while maintaining the highest standards of patient care. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of value-based healthcare at a system level — and to be directly accountable for delivering real financial and operational results.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Delivery Officer and working in close partnership with the Financial Recovery Director and Chief Finance Officer, you will take a hands-on role in driving the delivery of MFT’s multi-year financial recovery plan.
You will lead the Value for Patients Programme Management Office (PMO), overseeing the identification, development and tracking of high-impact cost improvement and income generation schemes. A core part of your role will be to assess the deliverability of proposed schemes, remove implementation barriers, and ensure benefits are realised in full.
Success will depend on your ability to influence and challenge at the highest levels. You will work across all Clinical Groups and corporate functions, engaging with senior clinical, operational and executive colleagues to embed a culture of performance, value, and accountability.
This is not a finance-only role — it is a Trust-wide transformation leadership role, focused on action, pace, and results.
What You’ll Bring
We’re seeking a credible and values-driven leader with:
*
A strong track record of delivering financially measurable change in NHS provider or consultancy settings
*
Expertise in NHS productivity, performance and cost improvement levers
*
Proven ability to assess scheme deliverability and lead implementation at pace
*
Outstanding influencing and engagement skills with executive and clinical leaders
*
Familiarity with value-based healthcare principles and how to apply them in practice
Your background may be clinical, operational, improvement or finance — what matters most is your ability to lead a Trust-wide delivery agenda with authority, drive and impact.
Why Join MFT?
MFT is the UK’s largest NHS Trust and one of its most ambitious. With scale comes opportunity — to drive innovation, lead transformation, and shape the future of sustainable NHS care.
You’ll join a senior leadership team committed to making change happen, and you’ll have a visible, strategic role in one of the most important priorities in the Trust’s history.
