Job Description
Job Title: Vertical Borer / Manual Machinist
Location: Wolverhampton
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM / Friday 8am to 3.30pm
Employment Type: Temp to Perm 13 weeks
Primary Role – Vertical Borer
We are seeking an experienced Vertical Borer to join our team. The successful candidate must have proven experience in setting and operating vertical boring machines.
Key Responsibilities:
*
Set and operate Webster & Bennett vertical borers (62” diameter table).
*
Machine carbon and stainless-steel flanges – including facing, edge machining, and boring operations.
*
Interpret and work from conventional engineering drawings.
*
Work to broad tolerances (typically ±1mm), focused more on roughing operations rather than high-precision machining.
*
Communicate effectively in English to understand verbal and written machining instructions.
Desirable:
*
Experience with horizontal borers may be considered for high-calibre candidates.
Secondary Role – Centre Lathe & Radial Drilling
When required, you will also support lathe and radial drilling operations.
Key Responsibilities:
*
Operate conventional centre lathes (non-CNC) to machine carbon and stainless-steel flanges.
*
Perform facing, edge machining, and boring operations to tolerances up to ±1mm.
*
Set and operate radial drills (capacities from 3’6” to 10’).
*
Drill and tap flanges using rotary tables, including setting Pitch Circle Diameters (PCD).
*
Set appropriate feeds and speeds independently, with minimal supervision.
Requirements:
*
Strong manual machining background in an industrial environment.
*
Ability to read and interpret conventional technical drawings.
*
Fluent in English – both verbal and written communication.
*
Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
