Job Description

VH Achievement Mentor Foundation Learning Hourly Rate: £15.96 per hour Contract Type: Variable Hours Reference: REC2456 | Closing Date: Sunday 30th August 2026 Variable Hours This role is offered on a Variable Hours contract for services, giving you the flexibility to choose whether to accept work offered to you. We’ll provide an approximate number of hours you may be asked to work, however there is no obligation for work to be offered, and there’s no obligation for you to accept the work offered. The Opportunity Are you looking for a role where you can genuinely see the difference you make? Foundation Learning is looking for an Achievement Mentor to join our experienced, close-knit and successful team. This is a varied and genuinely unique role, working partly from our Fleets building and partly from our brand-new converted mobile classroom, taking education directly into local communities. Our learners haven't always had the easiest relationship with education. Some have experienced barriers that have made traditional classrooms difficult, while others simply haven't yet found a way of learning that works for them. No two days will look exactly the same. At Fleets, you'll deliver small-group Maths and English intervention sessions, helping learners revisit concepts they may not have understood or mastered at school. We're not looking for someone to simply repeat the same lesson in the same way. You'll find different ways in, build confidence and make learning accessible, relevant and enjoyable. One day you might be helping a learner finally understand fractions. Another, you could be supporting someone who has spent years believing they're "no good at English" to recognise just how much they are capable of. You'll also work aboard our new mobile classroom, alongside other members of the Foundation Learning team. You'll travel into local communities to reach young people who may currently feel disconnected from education or unsure whether college is for them. This isn't about recreating a traditional classroom on a bus. It's about doing education differently. About You We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and believes that education can change lives. You will be approachable, empathetic and resilient, with the ability to build positive relationships with learners who may have previously disengaged from education. You will understand the importance of creating safe, supportive and motivating learning environments where young people can thrive. Qualifications and experience matter, but the person matters too. We're looking for someone who can build relationships with young people while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries. Someone who is patient enough to try something another way when a learner doesn't understand, creative enough to make Maths and English feel relevant, and resilient enough to understand that progress isn't always immediate or straightforward. You'll need to be comfortable working both in a college environment and out in the community, and willing to become part of a team that genuinely works together. Because the role may include driving our mobile classroom, a full UK driving licence is essential. You'll be joining a close, experienced and successful team with a strong track record of supporting young people who haven't always thrived within traditional education. We celebrate progress in all its forms. A qualification matters – but so does the learner who attends when they previously wouldn't, attempts something they were convinced they couldn't do, begins trusting adults again or starts believing that college might actually be somewhere they belong. Those moments happen here regularly. The role can be challenging. You'll work with young people who may have experienced significant barriers to education, and there will be days when you need patience, humour, creativity and persistence. But there are few jobs where you get to see so clearly why your work matters. If you're looking for a predictable role where every day looks the same, this probably isn't it. If you want variety, creativity, a supportive team and the opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people's lives, we'd really like to hear from you. Come and help us show young people that education can feel different this time
