Warehouse Operative
Bedford, Bedfordshire
£13.50 per hour (£26,000 per year)
Permanent position
A successful and well-established industrial materials business based in Kempston, Bedford are currently looking for a capable and motivated person with experience of machine and power tool operating, Forklift Truck Driving, and warehouse manual handling practices to join their team in a permanent position.
Duties will include:
* Manual handling of metal bars, rods, sheets and tubes - pulling out of racking and stacking before using a (Counterbalance) Forklift Truck to move to cutting areas or despatch
* Using power tools including nail guns, drills, screwdrivers and saws to produce various wooden crates and boxes to package metal items ready for despatch to customers
* Using FLT to load & unload vehicles, and put stock away into / retrieve from racking
* Using tape measures and calipers to measure metal stock accurately to check for customer order requirements
* Using bandsaws to cut metal bars to length (full training on machines will be provided)
* Occasional driving of a flatbed transit van, to deliver products to customers (usually once per week / fortnight organised on a rota system)
* Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
* Logging deliveries and material information onto the computer system
* Working as part of a small team, carrying out other duties as and when required
Requirements / Previous Experience:
* Previous experience working in a warehouse or industrial environment
* Operating hand and power tools ideally (but not essential) from an assembly or carpentry background
* Recent Counterbalance Forklift Truck Licence, and experience is required (refresher training can be taken)
* A valid, clean UK driving licence (minor points accepted)
* The pysical ability to regularly manually handle and move long metal bars, tube and sheets safely up to 25kg is essential
