Job Description

Workshop Manager – Plant Hire Sector South East based Base Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 + Car Allowance Are you a hands-on leader with a passion for plant maintenance and team development? We’re looking for a Workshop Manager to take ownership of all workshop operations at our Bedford Depot. In this role, you’ll report to the Depot Manager, leading a skilled team of Fitters and Yard Staff. You’ll ensure all equipment is maintained to the highest standards, ready for hire, and fully compliant with industry regulations. From planning daily workloads to upholding safety and 5S standards, your leadership will drive operational excellence. Key Responsibilities: * Lead, manage, and develop the workshop and yard teams. * Schedule and oversee maintenance activities, including PDIs, LOLER inspections, and repairs. * Ensure timely turnaround of equipment to meet customer demand. * Maintain strong stock control and ordering processes. * Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. * Work closely with Depot and National Operations Managers to maximize fleet availability. * Deputise for the Depot Manager when required. What We’re Looking For: * City & Guilds/NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plant Maintenance (or equivalent). * Broad knowledge of plant equipment and maintenance techniques. * Proven experience in workshop leadership. * Strong problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills. * IT-literate and confident in using workshop systems. * A valid UK driving licence (max 3 points).
