Our client in Thatcham is looking for a hands-on Workshop Manager to take ownership of day-to-day operations and lead their team to success!
In this pivotal role, you'll be on the ground and in control managing workflow, driving performance and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Your leadership won’t be from behind a desk, your visible and consistent presence on the shop floor will be key in identifying and resolving production issues quickly and effectively.

Pay:
* £38,000 to £42,000 per annum
Responsibilities:
* Leading and motivating the fabrication and assembly teams, setting clear expectations, offering support and coaching, creating a high-performing, engaged workforce.
* Scheduling jobs and managing daily workflow, ensuring alignment with production plans, deadlines, and resource availability.
* Personally inspecting and signing off key work items, ensuring all work meets engineering drawings, internal quality standards, and customer specifications.
* Monitoring workshop performance, using KPIs such as output, quality and productivity to guide decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
* Maintaining a safe, clean and organised workshop environment, ensuring all health and safety procedures are followed, and that any issues are resolved promptly.
* Collaborating across departments, working closely with the General Manager and other stakeholders to align priorities, review team performance, and support ongoing operational improvements.
Required experience & skills:
* Proven leadership experience in a fabrication or metalworking workshop
* Strong hands-on MIG/TIG welding experience with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
* Familiarity with metalworking techniques including folding, forming, and laser cutting
* Confident using job tracking systems, production data, Excel, and email
* Experience applying Lean principles such as 5S and continuous improvement in a practical setting
* Clear and confident communicator, comfortable liaising with both shop floor staff and senior management
