Job Description
Yard Shunter – Temporary Contract
Working week: Sunday to Thursday
Working hours: 17:00 to 02:00 - No overtime
Work location: on site – Breightmet
Contract length: Monday 1st September 2025 to Thursday 18th December 2025
Duties:
* Operate vehicles within the yard safely and efficiently.
* Coordinate the movement of delivery trucks and vans to optimize loading and unloading processes.
* Prepare vehicles ready for loading by emptying returned pallets.
* Perform vehicle checks and remedy minor defects where possible.
* Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations.
* Assist in ensuring loads are secured correctly.
* Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies while on duty.
Role Overview:
The correct person for this role will be collecting trucks from our site, emptying them of pallets and then positioning them onto loading bays as instructed.
They must be able to clearly communicate with the nightshift management to fulfil their requirements, (Must be fluent in English for health and safety and operational needs)
This person would need to be competent using an FLT to maintain the upkeep of our external pallet storage area.
They would also be expected to diligently check vehicles for any unreported defects and ideally be able to remedy minor defects (i.e bulbs etc) – (preferable but not essential)
A full time employment HGV opportunity could be considered at the end of the term for the correct candidate, Jan 26, subject to availability – To be reviewedBefore You Apply
