Haringey Youth Justice Service (YJS) is committed to preventing children and young people from offending and reoffending. The Role:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Practitioner to join our Youth Justice Service on a maternity cover contract for up to 12 months. This role involves leading on court work and group work initiatives, as well as managing a small caseload of complex post-court cases.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage court work, ensuring timely and effective interventions for children and young people involved in the youth justice system.
Manage and oversee a team working with complex cases, ensuring that children’s voices are heard and that interventions are child-focused and evidence-based.
Support and positively influence practice, ensuring consistent and high-quality recording of casework.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with key partners and stakeholders across children’s services and the justice system.
Contribute to the strategic priorities of the Youth Justice Service, including restorative justice, health outcomes, disproportionality, and serious youth violence reduction.
Case manage a small complex caseload post-court.
Champion a child-first, trauma-informed, and restorative approach in all aspects of practice.Person Specification:
Relevant professional qualification in social work, probation, teaching, youth work, or criminal justice (e.g., Diploma, degree, or masters).
Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a social worker, or equivalent professional recognition.
Proven track record in youth justice, with demonstrable experience in court work.
Experience in leadership or management within Youth Justice Service is highly desirable.
In-depth knowledge of youth justice and children’s legislation.
Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work collaboratively across multi-agency teams.
Resilient and authoritative management style, with a focus on safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare.
Commitment to the principles of restorative justice, trauma-informed care, and addressing disproportionality.Our Priorities for the Next Three Years:
