Job Specification Job Title: Youth Offending Team Officer
Department: Youth Justice Service (YJS)

Reports to: Team Manager / Senior Practitioner
Contract Type: Temporary – Minimum 3 months
Pay Rate: £19.29 per hour PAYE / £26 per hour LTD (via umbrella company)
Working Hours: Full time working pattern (9am-5.15pm)
Job Purpose The postholder will lead on the assessment and delivery of Out of Court Disposals (OOCD) within the Youth Justice Service. This includes triage, Community Resolution, Youth Cautions, and at times of high demand, Youth Conditional Cautions. The role involves conducting high-quality Prevention and Diversion Assessments (PDAT), attending key meetings and panels, and delivering tailored interventions in line with the Child First principle – promoting the rights, needs, and strengths of children to support their positive development and reduce reoffending.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake holistic assessments of children referred for OOCDs using the Prevention and Diversion Assessment Tool (PDAT).
Deliver evidence-based, trauma-informed, and outcome-focused interventions that are child-centred and promote desistance.
Participate in the Out of Court Disposal Panel (OOCD), Moving Forward planning meetings, and other multi-agency forums as required.
Work collaboratively with statutory and voluntary partners to ensure coordinated and effective wraparound support.
Maintain accurate, reflective, and timely case records in line with inspection and quality assurance standards.
Contribute to wider YJS duties, including participation in rota-based responsibilities, according to service needs.
Qualifications & Experience Essential:
Experience working with children and young people involved in or at risk of offending.
Sound understanding of youth justice legislation, policy, and practice – particularly relating to Out of Court Disposals.
Experience of completing assessments and delivering targeted interventions.
Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and the Child First principle.
Strong partnership working skills, with the ability to engage families, professionals, and external agencies.
Good written and verbal communication, including case recording and report writing.
Desirable:
Relevant professional qualification (e.g., Youth Justice, Social Work, Probation, Education, Psychology, or related field).
Previous experience of working within a Youth Justice Service or similar statutory setting.
Other Requirements
Enhanced DBS check required.
Flexibility to travel locally for meetings, interventions, and assessments.
Availability for an immediate or short-notice start preferred.
