Behavioural Support Worker Location: Conwy (To be determined (Post may involve base changes in line with the needs of a flexible care provider and in response to service and service user needs). About The Role: The post holder will be a member of the support team within the overall organisation and will be required to work with young people or adults with complex support needs and who have serious challenging behaviour and/or mental health/mental disorder which may be enduring or resistant to change. (These individuals may for a variety of reasons become hostile, antagonistic, angry, verbally abusive, or physically abusive to themselves or others).  The post holder will provide person centred care as indicated by the individual’s agreed service delivery plan and will work intensively to goals aimed at reducing dependence on high staffing requirements whilst being mindful of public safety concerns. Key Tasks and Responsibilities: Under the guidance and supervision of an in-house registered professional (Registered Manager, Behavioural Analyst, Registered Nurse) they will provide support to service users with complex care needs and follow service delivery plans. As instructed by the Manager / Behavioural Team assist service users in the development or maintenance of daily living skills. Have effective observational, communication and interpersonal skills. Undertake “waking night” duties as and when required. Understand the need for and maintain service user confidentiality at all times but will also be aware of the need to pass information on where public safety may be compromised. Adhere to all organisational, policies, procedures and guidelines Ensure good working relationships with service users, other staff members, relatives, other professionals and the public. Understand and demonstrate use of personal and clinical supervision to reflect upon and modify practice. Behave at all times in a professionally acceptable manner. Be willing and have the ability to undertake specialist training to support their role. Clinical: Respond to the needs of individuals in an honest, non-judgemental and open manner, which respects the rights of individuals and groups. Actively engage with individuals in the provision of holistic needs led care, which takes account of the physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual needs of individuals or groups. Demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities for all people. Demonstrate knowledge of the term ‘professional boundaries’ and the ability to apply this to working with individual service users, staff members and others. Respond to the needs of people sensitively with regard for age, culture, race, gender, ethnicity, religion and disability, especially regarding individuals’ privacy and dignity. Have an awareness of the rights (including Human Rights directives, the Mental Capacity Act, 2005 and certain aspects of the Mental Health Act 2007) and how to assist individuals and other staff members in exercising those rights where appropriate. Have an awareness where individuals’ rights may need to be compromised on the grounds of public safety interests Understand the fundamental importance of relationships to social and psychological well-being. Have an understanding of and the ability to involve service users in their own care.
