About the Role
We’re supporting a specialist rail design consultancy in their search for a Senior Civil Design Engineer / CRE to join their expanding design team in London. This role is ideal for an experienced civil engineer with a solid technical background, strong design delivery skills, and a hands-on approach to engineering.
You’ll take the lead on civil design elements within multi-disciplinary rail projects, collaborating closely with E&P, LV, and HV engineering teams to produce practical, compliant, and buildable design solutions.
This is a genuinely varied position that combines design production, technical assurance, and regular site engagement — perfect for someone who enjoys seeing their designs through from concept to delivery.
Key Responsibilities:

Act as Civil Design CRE, providing technical leadership, assurance, and coordination across allocated design packages.
*
Plan and undertake site surveys to verify conditions and gather data to inform detailed design.
*
Develop and check ancillary civil designs for E&P infrastructure, including:
*
Equipment bases
*
Duct routes and containment systems
*
Cable management and interface details
*
Minor drainage and access provisions
*
Produce and review temporary works designs to support construction sequencing and access.
*
Ensure civil designs integrate effectively with E&P layouts, containment systems, and cable routing.
*
Lead design reviews and manage compliance with Network Rail and internal assurance procedures.
*
Support project delivery through to handback, maintaining design integrity throughout construction.
Skills and Experience:
*
Proven experience as a Civil CRE or Senior Civil Engineer on Network Rail infrastructure projects.
*
Demonstrable experience designing UTXs, URXs, and buried cable routes.
*
Strong technical understanding of E&P-related civils, including foundations and cable management systems.
*
Competent in MicroStation (2D and 3D) and Tekla Tedds for design calculations.
*
Experience producing or checking temporary works designs.
*
Good knowledge of Network Rail standards and CDM Regulations.
*
Practical approach with an understanding of constructability and on-site delivery.
*
Excellent communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
*
Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel for site visits.
Desirable:
*
BEng/BSc in Civil or Structural Engineering
*
Chartered or working towards CEng status (ICE preferred)
*
PTS certification
*
Experience using ProjectWise and Network Rail assurance systems
