Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Section 38 Clerk of Works to come and join a busy client in the Manchester area. In this role, you will ensure that all new highways, footpaths, and drainage works delivered under Section 38 agreements comply with regulatory standards, contractual requirements, and quality benchmarks. Your expertise will help safeguard the safety, accessibility, and long-term durability of Manchester's public highways and infrastructure. 
  
The main duties of the experienced Section 38 Clerk of Works are: 
  
Act as the council's representative on Section 38 highway adoption projects, ensuring compliance with all statutory and contractual requirements. 
Inspect construction works, materials, and workmanship to ensure adherence to approved designs, specifications, and council standards. 
Monitor contractor performance and maintain detailed records of inspections, site visits, and progress reports. 
Identify non-conformances or defects, issue remedial instructions, and liaise with contractors to ensure corrective actions are completed. 
Provide technical advice to internal teams, developers, and contractors regarding highway design, construction standards, and adoption procedures. 
Coordinate with other council departments, statutory undertakers, and stakeholders to facilitate smooth project delivery. 
Prepare and submit reports, including completion certificates and recommendations for adoption of new highways. 
 Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, codes of practice, and health and safety regulations.
