Job Description

Commissioning Officer (Housing) Location: Hove (Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite per week) Contract: Temporary (Initial 6-month contract) Hours: 37 hours per week Rate: £25.00 per hour PAYE | £31.39 per hour LTD About the Role We are recruiting for an experienced Commissioning Officer to join a public sector organisation on an initial six-month contract. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and support commissioning projects that shape housing and homelessness services, working with a range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality, person-centred outcomes. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, manage competing priorities, and provide strategic commissioning support within a fast-paced public sector environment. Key Responsibilities * Lead and progress commissioning projects from planning through to delivery. * Review and develop service specifications and commissioning intentions. * Support procurement and recommissioning activities. * Develop project plans, options appraisals, business cases and commissioning documentation. * Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, partners and service providers. * Provide strategic commissioning advice and programme support. * Ensure commissioning activity aligns with governance requirements and delivers value for money. About You We're looking for someone with substantial commissioning experience, ideally gained within housing, homelessness, supported accommodation, public health or another public sector setting. You will have: * Proven experience delivering commissioning projects independently. * Knowledge of procurement and recommissioning processes. * Experience developing service specifications and commissioning documentation. * Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills. * Excellent written, analytical and communication skills. * An understanding of public sector governance and decision-making processes.
