Job Description

Role Overview

A temporary Design Manager is required to provide short-term on-site design and technical support during the final stages of a live project. The primary focus will be on design close-out, build completion, and handover preparation. The role is based full-time on-site within the contractor’s site office compound located near the prison.

This position is suited to someone with previous experience working on Ministry of Justice (MoJ) or other secure environment projects.

Key Responsibilities

  * 

    Lead and coordinate design close-out activities as the project progresses toward completion.

  * 

    Resolve outstanding technical queries and design issues in collaboration with the site team, consultants, and subcontractors.

  * 

    Support handover preparation, including reviewing O&M documentation, as-built information, and compliance records.

  * 

    Ensure all design information meets MoJ standards, project specifications, and statutory requirements.

  * 

    Track and manage remaining design actions to ensure timely completion.

  * 

    Attend site meetings and carry out inspections to validate design implementation.

  * 

    Maintain high-quality documentation, technical reporting, and design control for handover readiness.

Essential Requirements

  * 

    Proven experience as a Design Manager in construction.

  * 

    Previous involvement in MoJ, custodial, or secure-site projects is highly advantageous.

  * 

    Valid, current DBS clearance.

  * 

    Strong technical understanding of design processes and construction methodology.

  * 

    Excellent communication and coordination skills.

  * 

    Ability to work full-time on-site in Sutton, Surrey.

Desirable Skills

  * 

    Experience in handover preparation and project close-out.

  * 

    Familiarity with secure-site protocols and approvals processes.

  * 

    Knowledge of BIM workflows and document control systems
