Environmental Lead – Defence- Bristol- Permanent- Excellent salary and benefits package..
At Copello we are partnering with one of our Defence clients to find an experienced Environmental Lead to oversee environmental management and compliance activities defence programmes. This role is focused on ensuring adherence to UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) environmental policies, delivering environmental assurance artefacts for air systems, and embedding sustainable practices throughout the project lifecycle.
Were looking for a subject matter expert in environmental protection to work closely with engineering, safety, and programme teams to ensure environmental risks are identified, assessed, and effectively managed.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and implementation of environmental management strategies for aerospace and defence projects.
* Ensure compliance with UK MOD environmental requirements, including:
* Defence Project-Oriented Environmental Management System (POEMS)
* DEF STAN 00-51 – Environmental Management Requirements for Defence Systems
* Other applicable environmental and regulatory standards
* Deliver environmental artefacts for defence air systems, including:
* Integrate environmental considerations into system design, development, operation, maintenance, and disposal phases.
* Identify and manage environmental risks and opportunities across programmes.
* Act as the primary interface with regulators, customers, and internal stakeholders on environmental matters.
* Support audits, reviews, approvals, and assurance activities in line with MOD governance processes.
* Provide environmental guidance and mentoring to engineering and project teams.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of environmental management processes, tools, and methodologies.
Candidate Requirements
Experience
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an environmental role within aerospace and/or defence environments.
* Proven experience delivering environmental artefacts for defence air systems, including UAVs, aircraft, or related aerospace platforms.
* Experience supporting safety and environmental cases within regulated programmes.
* Environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks applicable to aerospace and defence sectors
* Strong understanding of environmental compliance and assurance within regulated engineering programmes.
* Ability to integrate environmental requirements into complex technical projects.
