Head of Accounts – Accountancy Practice

Our client is a well-established and growing accountancy firm based in Birmingham. Renowned for delivering high-quality accounting, tax, and advisory services, they work with a diverse portfolio of businesses and individuals, providing strategic financial guidance and exceptional client service.

Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced and ambitious Head of Accounts to lead their accounts department and play a key role in the future success of the firm.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accounting professional with strong practice experience and proven leadership capabilities. The successful candidate will take ownership of the accounts function, manage a talented team, and work closely with clients to deliver exceptional financial and advisory services.

Key Responsibilities

  * Lead, mentor, and develop the accounts team, fostering a high-performance culture.

  * Oversee the preparation and review of statutory accounts for a varied client portfolio.

  * Manage and maintain strong relationships with SME and high-net-worth clients.

  * Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and tax legislation.

  * Provide strategic financial advice and business insight to clients.

  * Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiencies, and service delivery.

  * Support the firm's growth objectives and contribute to wider business strategy.

  * Review work completed by team members, ensuring accuracy and quality standards are maintained.

About You

  * ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent).

  * Previous experience managing or leading a team.

  * Strong technical knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax regulations.

  * Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  * Commercially aware with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  * Proficient in accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage.

Desirable Experience

  * Experience operating in a senior leadership or partner-track position.

  * Business development and client acquisition experience.

  * Strong understanding of cloud-based accounting systems and digital accounting solutions.
