An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Procurement to join a public sector organisation at a pivotal stage of its transformation journey. With a well-established procurement team already in place, this role offers the chance to lead meaningful change, strengthen commercial capability, and shape the future direction of the procurement function. This is a 12-18 month fixed-term contract based in Birmingham, with 2 days per week in the office.
Your new role
As Interim Head of Procurement, you will provide strategic leadership to the procurement function during a period of organisational change. Key responsibilities include:
Leading, motivating, and developing an experienced procurement team
Providing stability, resilience, and visible leadership throughout a period of change
Driving procurement transformation and continuous improvement initiatives
Reviewing and enhancing contract management practices, embedding best practice across the organisation
Ensuring compliance with the Procurement Act 2023 and associated governance requirements
Building strong relationships with senior stakeholders and securing buy-in for change programmes
Overseeing a diverse portfolio of procurement activity and strategic sourcing projects
Strengthening supplier performance, contract governance, and commercial outcomes
Championing procurement best practice and increasing the strategic value delivered by the functionWhat you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Proven experience as a Head of Procurement, Senior Procurement Manager or senior public sector procurement leader
Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing and managing procurement teams
Experience of being part of procurement transformation, change, and service improvement programmes
Excellent knowledge of the Procurement Act 2023 and public sector procurement regulations
Significant experience in contract management, governance, and supplier relationship management
Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to gain buy-in at senior levels
