Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Head of Technical to lead the end-to-end technical function across a fast-paced business. This role will be responsible for ensuring product quality, safety, compliance, and innovation across an extensive range of own-label and branded products.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Strategy & Leadership

  * Define and execute the technical strategy aligned with business goals and growth plans

  * Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing technical team

  * Act as the senior technical authority across the organisation

Quality & Compliance

  * Ensure all products meet UK, EU, and international regulatory requirements

  * Oversee product safety, quality assurance, and risk management frameworks

  * Maintain robust quality management systems and audit processes

Supplier & Product Management

  * Approve and manage suppliers, ensuring adherence to technical and ethical standards

  * Drive continuous improvement in supplier performance and product quality

  * Oversee product specifications, testing, and validation processes

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  * Partner with Commercial, NPD, and Supply Chain teams to deliver innovation

  * Support speed-to-market while maintaining compliance and quality

  * Influence senior stakeholders on technical risk and opportunity

Crisis & Risk Management

  * Lead responses to product recalls, quality incidents, or regulatory challenges

  * Implement proactive risk mitigation strategies

Candidate

  * Extensive experience in a senior technical or quality leadership role

  * Retailer experience

  * Proven leadership experience managing and scaling technical teams

  * Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive change

  * Experience working with global suppliers and complex supply chains desirable

  * Strong commercial awareness alongside technical expertise
