Job Description

Abatec is recruiting for a permanent Health & Safety Advisor to join a respected civil engineering contractor delivering major infrastructure works across the South of England. The organisation has a strong reputation for maintaining high safety standards on complex projects and offers a supportive environment with genuine long-term career prospects.

This is a site-based position in Portsmouth supporting a large-scale infrastructure scheme involving significant earthworks and heavy plant operations. Working as part of an established Health & Safety team, you will report into senior project leadership and HSE management while playing a key role in promoting safe working practices and supporting operational teams in maintaining compliance and continuous improvement.

As Health & Safety Advisor you will:

  * Liaise with site delivery teams to provide advice, support and training on all aspects of health & safety compliance and issues affecting site location

  * Organise, support and contribute to health and safety assurance audits.

  * Conduct and/or support accident and incident investigations.

  * ISO 45001 champion & monitoring & ensuring compliance with ISO 45001

  * Understand and apply the company’s approach to managing Health & Safety risk, driving best-in-class performance.

  * Monitor and review corrective actions to ensure clear, effective improvements.

Our client is looking for a SHEQ Advisor with:

  * Proven experience working as part of a Health & Safety team, preferably with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Civil Engineering contractor

  * NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)

  * IOSH membership (or working towards)

  * Experience working on large-scale earthworks, bulk excavations or heavy plant

  * Ability to collect, analyse and interpret large volumes of data with accuracy

  * Strong organisational and time-management skills

  * Strong communication skills and confidence engaging at all levels

  * Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Visio, Excel and PowerPoint

Salary/benefits:

  * Salary up to £45,000 - £58,000

  * Company car/car allowance
