Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Secondary School | Suffolk

Are you a confident and experienced Teaching Assistant ready to take the next step in your career?

A friendly and supportive secondary school in Suffolk is looking for a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team on a full-time basis. This is a varied and rewarding role where you will cover classes across EYFS through to KS2, supporting pupils and staff across the school.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, thrives in a busy school environment, and is passionate about helping children succeed.

About the Role

As a HLTA, you will play an important role within the school, supporting teaching and learning across different year groups. You will deliver pre-planned lessons during teacher release time or absence, support pupils in small groups, and help maintain a positive and engaging learning environment throughout the school.

The school is looking for someone who can quickly build positive relationships with pupils, adapt confidently across year groups, and bring energy and enthusiasm into the classroom.

What You’ll Be Doing

Delivering engaging pre-planned lessons and activities
Supporting pupils’ learning, confidence, and classroom engagement
Managing classroom behaviour effectively
Providing small group and intervention support where needed
Working closely with teachers and senior leaders across the school
Helping to create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

What We’re Looking For

Experience working within a Secondary school setting
Confident covering classes across different age groups
Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
A positive, adaptable, and proactive approach
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
HLTA qualification is desirable but not essential for experienced candidates
A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and development
