Job Description

Infrastructure Engineer – 3-month contract – Northampton

My Customer is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to support a server migration project, transitioning from Windows Server 2016 to Windows Server 2025. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer with a strong Windows ecosystem background, capable of working across complex environments and ensuring a smooth and secure migration.

Required Skills & Experience for the Infrastructure Engineer:

Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server 2016 and newer versions (including 2025 or latest equivalents)
Proven track record delivering server migration or upgrade projects ideally Windows 2016 to Windows 2025
Solid experience across core Windows technologies (Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP)
Experience supporting and maintaining SQL Server (2014 and above)
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within enterprise environments
Experience working in structured project environments with clear deliverables
Exposure to or experience with VMware vRealize Automation (vRA) would be beneficial
Experience with virtualisation technologies (VMware / Hyper-V) would be beneficial
Key Responsibilities of the Infrastructure Engineer:

Lead and support the migration of Windows Server 2016 environments to Windows Server 2025
Assess existing infrastructure, identifying dependencies, risks, and opportunities for optimisation
Build, configure, and deploy new Windows Server environments
Perform in-place upgrades and/or migration to new infrastructure where required
Support SQL Server environments (2014 onwards), ensuring compatibility and performance post-migration
Troubleshoot and resolve issues across server, OS, and application layers
Ensure systems are compliant with security and patching standards
The Infrastructure Engineer is required to be onsite, 4 days a week in Northampton.
