Job Description

Inspection Technician (manufacturing) Location: West Yorkshire Salary: £30,000-£32,000 per annum Contract: Full-time, Permanent Working Hours: Monday-Thursday 07:00-16:00 | Friday 07:00-13:00 We are looking for a hands-on Inspection Technician to join an established engineering manufacturing environment in Yorkshire. This is a practical, workshop-based position for someone who enjoys working directly with engineering components, precision measuring equipment and technical drawings. You will spend much of your time carrying out dimensional inspections using a range of handheld and specialist inspection equipment, ensuring components meet exact specifications. This role would be particularly well suited to someone from a machining, engineering inspection, metrology, manufacturing or workshop background, rather than someone whose experience is predominantly focused on quality administration or paperwork. Responsibilities • Carry out accurate dimensional inspection of manufactured components. • Use a range of precision measuring and inspection equipment, including: oMicrometres oVerniers and callipers oBore micrometres oHeight gauges oShadow graph / profile projector oThread wires and thread gauges oPlug gauges oSurface measurement equipment oHardness testing equipment oCMM equipment where required • Interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, specifications and work instructions. • Carry out first-off, in-process and final inspections. • Check components against specified dimensional and technical requirements. • Identify defects, dimensional discrepancies and manufacturing issues. • Provide practical and accurate feedback to machinists and production teams to help resolve manufacturing issues. • Record inspection results and maintain accurate traceability documentation. • Identify and quarantine non-conforming components where required. • Inspect coated and subcontracted components for quality, condition and dimensional compliance. • Ensure material and component reference numbers are correctly recorded for traceability. • Support investigations into manufacturing issues by providing accurate measurement data. • Assist with third-party inspections and internal inspection activities. • Maintain inspection equipment and ensure measuring equipment is used correctly. • Maintain a clean, organised and safe inspection/work area in line with 6S principles. The Person • We are looking for someone who is practical, technically minded and confident using precision measurement equipment. • Confident using equipment such as micrometres, callipers, verniers and gauges. • Ability to accurately measure engineering components and work to tight tolerances. • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. • Good understanding of engineering/manufacturing processes. • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach. • Good numeracy and communication skills. • Ability to identify issues and communicate findings clearly to production teams. We are particularly interested in candidates who are comfortable picking up a micrometer or bore gauge and physically inspecting a component, rather than candidates whose background is predominantly quality systems, auditing or QC administration.
