Teaching Personnel are currently working in partnership with a range of specialist provisions and mainstream schools across Bolton to recruit dedicated Intervention Support Assistants to support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a full-time position (Monday to Friday), with working hours varying slightly depending on the school placement. For the right candidate, there is a strong opportunity to move from a temporary to permanent contract.
A full UK driving licence is preferred but not essential, as some placements may require travel between sites.
About the Role
As an Intervention Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils who require additional help to engage in learning and regulate their emotions and behaviour. You will work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs and pastoral teams to deliver targeted interventions and 1:1 support.
You will be expected to work in environments that reflect the ethos of SEMH-focused provisions such as Raise Education and Wellbeing School, where relationships, consistency and emotional regulation are central to pupil progress.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver targeted academic and behavioural interventions to support pupils with SEN/SEMH needs
Provide 1:1 and small group support, adapting learning activities to individual needs
Support pupils in managing challenging behaviour using calm, consistent and de-escalation strategies
Build positive and trusting relationships to promote engagement and emotional wellbeing
Assist teaching staff in implementing EHCP targets and behaviour support plans
Encourage pupils to develop self-regulation, resilience and positive social skills
Support learning across a range of subjects, including English and Maths
Maintain accurate records of progress, behaviour and engagement
The Ideal Candidate
Experience working with children or young people (SEN, SEMH or pastoral support preferred)
Confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Patient, resilient and adaptable approach
Able to work effectively as part of a team
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
