Lead IT Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Yateley, Hampshire (On-site)
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 DOE
Type: Full-time, Permanent
About the Role
As Lead IT Infrastructure Engineer, you will spearhead the design, implementation, and maintenance of critical IT infrastructure within a dynamic technology team. Your role includes strategic planning, hands-on engineering, and nurturing cross-functional collaboration to ensure high availability, scalability, and security of systems. You will lead and mentor a team of infrastructure engineers, support complex escalations, and drive continual service improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead design and architecture of on-premises, cloud, and hybrid infrastructure solutions including servers, storage, virtualization, and networking.
Manage and maintain core infrastructure services (Windows/Linux servers, virtualization platforms, firewalls, disaster recovery).
Deploy and administer cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
Ensure 24/7 system availability, monitor performance, and contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
Implement infrastructure automation using tools like Terraform and Ansible.
Maintain monitoring and alerting systems such as Zabbix, Prometheus, or Nagios.
Enforce security best practices and support compliance audits (ISO 27001, CE+).
Manage, supervise, and mentor infrastructure engineers, promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure engineering or systems administration.
Strong hands-on expertise with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V).
Proficiency in scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is an advantage.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
Proven experience in team leadership, project management, and high-pressure environments.
