TeacherActive is proud to be working with a ALN school in Cardiff, supporting with their recruitment for a ALN Learning Support Assistant / LSA. The setting is centred on pupil’s development, as well as an intrinsic desire to make progress both academically and with their own emotional, social and behavioural skills.
We are looking for kind, patient and caring Teaching Assistants to support pupils aged 4–19 in specialist ALN and SEND schools in Cardiff. These pupils may have severe autism, PMLD, communication needs, and physical or sensory needs.
This role is ideal for people who have experience in care, support work, youth work, SEND education, or health and social care.
As an ALN Teaching Assistant, you will help pupils access learning and daily activities in a safe, calm and supportive environment.
You may support pupils with:
Severe Autism
Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)
Complex communication needs (non-verbal pupils)
Sensory processing needs
Physical or medical needs
Your daily responsibilities may include:
Providing 1:1 or small group support
Supporting communication using visuals, symbols or assistive communication tools
Helping pupils with personal care and mobility if required
Supporting sensory activities and sensory regulation
Helping pupils take part in learning, play and life skills
Working closely with teachers, therapists and support staff
Creating a calm, predictable and structured environment
Essential Requirements
To apply for this ALN Teaching Assistant role, you must have:
At least 6 months’ experience supporting children or young people with additional needs
Experience in SEND schools, care work, support work, or youth work
A patient, nurturing and calm approach
Strong spoken and written English
The right to work in the UK
A 5-year employment history with any gaps explained
Two years of references, including one from education or care
An Enhanced DBS check (and overseas police checks if needed)
