Learning Support Assistant Location: City Academy Norwich Salary: Points 4-6 of the Support Staff Scale FTE £25,185 - £25,989 per annum Pro rata £22,511 - £23,648 per annum, including an allowance for holiday pay Vacancy Type: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week (Term-time plus two weeks) Closing Date: 22nd of June 2026 City Academy Norwich is seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our expanding SEND Department. LSAs provide an efficient and high quality support to all students within the department, under the supervision and direction of the class teacher, in consultation with the SENDCO as required. Vision and Purpose of the Role * Provide adaptive and personalised learning support for students with diverse needs. * Build positive relationships with students, colleagues, families, and external professionals. * Model the school’s values and high expectations. * Contribute to a caring, safe, and ambitious learning environment. Role Overview Learning Support Assistants play a vital part in delivering high-quality SEND provision across the Academy. Deployment may include: * In-class support * Small-group or 1:1 interventions * Working within specialist Nurture classrooms, the Cognition & Learning Base, or the SEMH Base Applications are welcomed from aspiring teachers or those seeking to develop a career in education or the public sector. PERSON SPECIFICATION The professional competencies expected of an LSA are: * The ability to communicate clearly and tactfully using appropriate methods and an awareness of the impact of your own communication on others; * Able to maintain positive relationships with all and able to work as an effective and flexible part of a team; willing to change methods of work and routines to benefit the team; * Be able to multi-task and work under pressure; * Be flexible and resilient in managing and executing their daily responsibilities; * Able to demonstrate strong planning and organisational skills; * Willingness to accept responsibility for your own actions; * The ability to prioritise effectively, meet deadlines and accept challenges. The qualifications and experience required of an LSA are: * A minimum of a grade C / 4, or equivalent, in English and Maths GCSE. JOB SPECIFICATION A non-exhaustive list of specific responsibilities for the role is below and you will be required to undertake other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be required. The post-holder will be required to comply with the Trust Code of Conduct. The post holder will have access to and be responsible for confidential information and documentation. They must ensure confidential or sensitive material is handled appropriately and accurately. The post holder shall participate in the Trust’s programme of Performance Management and Continuing Professional Development. Core job functions: Teaching and Learning * Develops and uses knowledge and skills e.g. literacy, numeracy or science to contribute to student learning. * Monitor, evaluate and records students’ progress and reports this as directed. * Use information and communication technology to support students learning. * Works with small groups or individual students to enable learning. * Provides support to the teacher by accompanying students on off-site activities. * Discusses with the teacher and contributes to curriculum and classroom planning – informally and at meetings. * Works as part of a team to ensure that the wellbeing, behaviour and personal development of students enhances their learning opportunities and life skills. * Assist in the educational and social development of all students. * Have full relevant knowledge of students medical and physical needs and able to refer to the relevant person should a problem arise. * Assist students in developing their resilience and independence in the classroom. Have a full knowledge of student’s social, emotional and behavioural needs and ensuring that any disclosure a student may make must be reported to the classroom teacher and Child Protection Officers immediately.
