A leading main contractor operating across the London and South East property services and regeneration market is looking to appoint an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team.
This is a senior commercial position offering the opportunity to take ownership of a portfolio of high-value refurbishment, façade remediation and regeneration projects, whilst providing commercial leadership to a wider team.
The Opportunity
You will take responsibility for the commercial performance of a number of projects, working closely with operational teams, senior management and clients to maximise profitability, manage risk and ensure strong commercial control throughout the project lifecycle. You'll also have responsibility for direct reports, including a trainee, providing leadership, mentoring and support while helping to develop the wider commercial team.
Key Responsibilities
Take commercial ownership of a portfolio of projects across London and the South East
Lead and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors and junior commercial staff
Monitor project performance, profitability, costs and cash flow
Manage commercial risk and ensure appropriate mitigation is in place
Lead on forecasting, CVRs, financial reporting and commercial reviews
Manage change, variations, valuations, applications and final accounts
Ensure contractual obligations are understood, protected and delivered
Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders
Provide commercial support and advice to senior management
Identify opportunities to maximise project profitability
Mentor and develop junior members of the commercial team
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an established Managing Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor who is ready to take the next step into a wider leadership role, or an experienced MQS already operating at this level.
You should have:
Strong main contracting experience
A proven background within refurbishment, regeneration, property services, façade, cladding or similar construction environments
Experience managing the commercial performance of multiple projects
Previous experience managing or mentoring Quantity Surveyors and junior commercial staff
Strong understanding of commercial and contractual management
Experience working with JCT, NEC or similar forms of contract
Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills
Strong financial and analytical capability
A degree in Quantity Surveying or a relevant commercial qualification
A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel between sites
