Manufacturing Sales Engineer – Leeds – £35,000 to £65,000 (DOE)

A precision engineering business in Leeds is looking to appoint a Manufacturing Sales Engineer to join its CNC machining team. This position sits at the intersection of engineering and commercial development, requiring both a strong technical grounding in precision machining and the ability to engage effectively with customers across sectors such as aerospace, oil & gas, and defence.

The role:

The Manufacturing Sales Engineer will be responsible for developing and managing customer relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and ensuring that client requirements are translated into practical, cost-effective manufacturing solutions. Working closely with internal engineering and production teams, the successful candidate will deliver tailored technical proposals, quotations, and presentations to support project delivery from initial enquiry through to completion.

Key responsibilities include:

Building and maintaining long-term relationships with both new and existing customers

Understanding technical requirements and proposing manufacturable solutions

Preparing detailed quotations, proposals, and technical presentations

Liaising with internal teams to assess feasibility, cost, and lead times

Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities

Negotiating and securing contracts

Keeping up to date with machining technologies, materials, and industry developments

Representing the business at trade shows, industry events, and client visits

Candidate requirements:

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in sales or engineering within a CNC machining or manufacturing environment

Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, materials, and tolerances

Proven background in customer relationship management and technical sales

Confident communicator with strong negotiation and presentation skills

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications

Competent with CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications

Engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification preferred

Desirable:

Experience working with aerospace, oil & gas, or defence customers

Knowledge of ISO standards and quality systems

Proactive, self-motivated approach with a focus on results

Willingness to travel across the UK and occasionally overseas
