PE Cover Supervisor

Secondary Schools - East Lancashire
 Day-to-Day * Short-Term * Long-Term Assignments

Role Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable PE Cover Supervisors to work across secondary schools in East Lancashire, providing high‑quality supervision of physical education lessons during staff absence. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in sport, education, coaching, or youth work who are confident managing pupils in an active environment.

As a PE Cover Supervisor, you will deliver pre‑planned PE lessons, ensure pupil safety, maintain positive behaviour, and support students' engagement and physical development.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise and manage PE lessons in accordance with pre‑set plans left by the teacher
Lead a range of physical activities, both indoors and outdoors
Ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times
Manage behaviour effectively in line with the school's behaviour policy
Encourage positive participation, teamwork and sportsmanship
Take responsibility for changing room routines and transitions
Maintain accurate attendance and incident records as required
Liaise with PE staff, cover managers, and senior leaders as needed
Adapt confidently to different schools, year groups and facilities

Requirements

✅ Experience working with secondary school-aged pupils
 ✅ Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
 ✅ Confidence delivering PE activities to KS3 and KS4 students
 ✅ Good knowledge of health & safety in a PE/sports setting
 ✅ Excellent communication and organisational skills
 ✅ A flexible, professional, and proactive attitude
 ✅ Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Desirable (but not essential)

Degree or qualification in Sport, Physical Education, or Coaching
Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Sports Coach, or PE TA
Aspirations to train as a Physical Education Teacher
Coaching qualifications (e.g. FA, UKCC, or equivalent)

Assignment Types

Day-to-Day Cover: Flexible work suited to availability
Short-Term Placements: Covering planned staff absence or illness
Long-Term Assignments: Supporting PE departments across a term
